Carousels vanished from Admin and from website 9/11/2011 at 10:23
Hi.
I’m using WP Carousel on wordpress multisite.
When developing the site on our test server, all carousels were working great.
However, when we moved the site to the live domain, the carousels have disappeared
1) all carousels disappeared from the admin area
2) all carousels do not display on website
I have export code for each one, but when I go into ‘Backup Manager’ it shows no sign of there ever being a carousel created.
If I go to ‘Safe Mode Import’ and try to import the code, I get the following error:
“That code is not a valid WP Carousel backup code”
Here is an example of the backup code:

WP Carousel uses WordPress’s option table to store its content. I am not sure about if WordPress save those changes when you export the content or not, but in any case, the export code should work.
I’ve checked your export code and it seems to have errors. Are you sure that you’ve copied the entire code? May you have missed some part or sign?
If you want, you can use a Database manager like phpMyAdmin and copy manually the content of your test server to the final server. Just look for table wp_options (where wp_ is the prefix you set up when you installed WordPress) and search the rows with “wp_carousel” or “wp_carousel_config” as values for column “option_name”. Those rows store the config and the content of the carousels.
In any case, the export code should work. Check that it is correct.
About WP Carousel 1.0.1, just wait for 1.1. It will be released with WordPress 3.3 and it includes more features. 1.0.1 was just fixing some problems, but it seems that it has made more problems that it solves

Hi
many thanks for your reply.
I’ve just looked in the phpmyadmin database for each site, and it appears that the carousel code IS there in the WP_OPTIONS table (both config and content)
So the content is in the database, but the carousels do not show.
I carried out a ‘find and replace’ on the domain name… I don’t suppose this could have had an effect?
I’m pretty sure I copied the entire text for each carousel, however I will double check.

Hi
Yes, I just checked the export code and this is indeed the full code i am given:

hi…
sorry, I just checked that code and it IS incomplete. Do you have a character limit set on the field?
If you look at this link, I have added the full code to an HTML document so you can see. (VIEW SOURCE)
http://solutiongroup.co.uk/testing/sumolaricode/code.html
I’ve also uploaded the full content from the wp_options table (what i have in the fields ‘wp_carousel’ and ‘wp_carousel_backup’.
Hopefully this will help you?

Right… I seem to be getting somewhere with this, but my findings are very strange.
The carousels are stored in the correct place in the database. However, when doing a ‘search/replace’ on the old/new domain names in phpmyadmin, this causes the carousels NOT to show in the admin.
It also causes the error to return in the webpage. (mentioned earlier)
The only way I have been able to ‘fix’ the carousel is to amend the code in the wp_carousel field to that of the OLD domain name.
This at least makes the carousels visible in the admin and on the site, however displays broken link refs.
I can then amend the links from within the admin area and update.
My problem is that I don’t understand why a simple search/replace would cause this?
Updating it from within the admin area produces the exact same code as when I search/replace!
Is there any other functionality that might cause something strange to happen??

Sorry, I do not know why, but I didn’t get notified about your responses.
I’ve checked your code, and I’ve found that the code this code should work properly.
Take into account that when you add any item to the carousels, WP Carousel stores its ID, so if you add the post with ID, for instance, 25, and then you export your site to other one, and when you import your posts, the desired post has ID 37 instead of 25, you'll get an error.
The same happens with categories, tags, and any other item.
So the best way to use WP Carousel is adding just one category, and add any post you want to show in the carousel to that category.
Then you can just create from scratch the carousel because it has just one item and it doesn't need a lot of work to add the item again.
But if you add all the items one by one, then you have to take into account that if the ID of any of them is different in the development envirorment that in the production envirorment, you'll get strange behaviours like posts without content.
The export and import code is useful for backing up the carousels. If you use them to set a new site as other, you'll need to fix the IDs or be sure that they're the same.
