help, my carousel disappeared with update to 1.1! 11/1/2012 at 2:50 #8432

Hi, sorry to post in so many places…
Help! I have had WP carousel installed on one of my sites for a while (I customized it to do exactly what I wanted, be a static content display gallery below the header) and it was working great. It survived many WP updates. Recently I updated WP to 3.3.1 AND I updated the Carousel plugin itself to v. 1.1, and for some reason it completely disappeared from the top of my site!!
http://www.cityrat.com/ (before its disappearance it looked like this one: http://www.furgarden.com/ except the images were nice, etc.) I dont think it was the WP 3.3.1 update, though, because i updated WP to the new version on another site i use (http://www.furgarden.com/) for testing and the gallery remained intact stayed, looks fine, and it is still using v .53 of Carousel, so probably the plugin update? Please help, how do I get my lovely carousel/gallery back?

Just to add, i checked the path on the version ID page:

http://www.cityrat.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-carousel/wp-carousel.php

where it says, “wrong? report in forum”
and it goes to this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_bloginfo() in /home/cityrat/cityrat.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-carousel/wp-carousel.php on line 145

thank you,
Michelle m@cityrat.com

If you were previously using StepCarousel, see other posts that Sumolari has made indicating that WP-Carousel can no longer utilize StepCarousel because of licensing issues. Therefore, once you update to 1.0.1 and beyond, WP-Carousel ONLY uses JCarousel. This happens EVEN if you’ve configured your theme to carousel to NOT use JCarousel or to only use StepCarousel. This happens EVEN if you have coded in your (new) wp-carousel-config.php file to NOT use JCarousel, and it EVEN happens if you have hard-code modifed wp-carousel.php itself to set the USE_JCAROUSEL config option to false or zero! In other words, you are being forced to upgrade all of your theme settings, styles and customizations to work with JCarousel. Example – no matter what you do, theme.php is NOT read at all, only theme-jcarousel.php is used.

Check our HTML source where your carousel should be – there may be a WP-Carousel Error: message that will help guide you in the right direction.

As NET MAN has said, you can’t use StepCarousel in WP Carousel 1.1, but this is not a personal decision.

I was asked by WordPress.org to remove StepCarousel if I want to keep WP Carousel in the repository. Why? Because StepCarousel has a license incompatible with GPL and all the plugins in WordPress.org must be GPL, so I’ve decided that the best thing I could do was removing StepCarousel, forcing to use jCarousel and adding Nivo Slider, which features nices transitions and a great look.
